The Comeback Kid

My sister Joy once pointed out the difference between artists who play an instrument and sing, and artists who just sing. I think I now understand what she was saying. There is something special about someone who can emote their message through their music especially when they understand the way music is constructed and how it flows. On top of that when an artist is able to sing, rap, and play an instrument … son let me tell you that person is talented. I came across B.Reith (aka Brian Reith). about 2 years ago, by way of my sister Joy. I was so excited to hear his music that I paid $13 for 5 songs off his EP titled The Forecast (go ahead call me crazy).
I had never before come across such melodies and harmonies like the ones I heard in his music. On top of that his lyrics were metaphorically deep and yet so easy to understand. And if you don’t think the singing, rapping, freestyling, and instrument playing is enough talent, B.Reith also writes his own lyrics and pre-produces in his small studio. I think what I like most about him is that he keeps it real and stays humble. What do I mean by keeps it real … well in my opinion he lives his life like any old regular person, and not like a most musicians that you see on TV. Of course, he is not known worldwide like some other artiists, but even if he was, ‘m sure he would still be humble. When I hear his music and see his videos I can easily place myself in that situation and say “I have been there before!” For example how many people can remember seeing a guy/girl for the first time and feeling awe struck? Check out the video below to see what I’m talking about.
I remember when I first got his CD, it was shortly after I had moved to Houston, and I kept telling my friends check this guy out. They may have thought I was hyping him too much cause I don’t think they really listened to me. I didn’t care what anyone said, I knew this guy was talented. Two years later, most of the people I told about B.Reith back then, now have his latest full Album title Now Is Not Forever. Funny what a matter of two years will do.
His new album takes his slick way with words and his beautiful harmonies and broadens the spectrum of the genre of his music. Some songs are full ballads, others, a mix or rapping and singing. With his album you are bound to like one of the 12 tracks on the CD. I have almost memorized the whole CD. I sometimes change my status on facebook or on twitter based on how I’m feeling or something funny that I see. But more often than not, I either get my status updates directly from the music that I listen to or they are formed from a derivative of the lyrics I hear. I don’t always give the credit where it is due and right now I want to give a shout out to B.Reith for making me look clever (though he probably won’t read this … lol).
